Can you tell me if Purslane is beneficial to soil? My current garden has pruslane covering every space that wasn't planted.

Hello Julie, as a companion plant, purslane provides ground cover to create a humid microclimate for nearby plants as well as for the soil, stabilising ground moisture. Its deep roots bring up moisture and nutrients to the soil that can be used by neighbouring plants. Some plants ( including corn) will follow purslane roots down through harder soil that they cannot penetrate on their own (ecological facilitation). Purslane can be considered as beneficial weed.

Thank you! I can practically picture my new and improved garden next spring, and the new "flower bed" I'm going to create on an unused slope in my yard to attract beneficial insects/pollinators! :)
