Food Patriots

Runtime: 73m 41s | Release date: 2014

A midwestern family has been rattled by the near death of their son from foodborne illness. This food contamination scare shook the family up so much that they embarked on a roller coaster journey to understand the food industry and improve the family’s eating habits. The family begins their journey to health by starting a vegetable garden, raising chickens in their own backyard and asking the real questions such as, "Where does our food actually come from?".

Food Patriots is surprising, funny, and poignant, as this personal film unfolds from one family's story into a powerful consumer movement. Food Patriots features food advocates from all walks of life who are trying to hatch a revolution to change the way Americans eat and buy food, and educate the next generation of consumers.

Featuring:
Jeff Spitz

Fantastic! I love the 10% concept. As for gov't, they only listen when it either going to get them elected or when money is involved. Fight back and use every penny you spend to protest. Watch where and what you spend your actual vote$.This is the only way the gov't I'll listen.

Great Great Great!!!!! Thank you FMTV for putting his film on here for us to watch. The film was so REAL! It showed how DIFFICULT it is to change things especially in government, but yet, how a few people can make some changes to others and make a movement to the right direction!! I loved this film!! The Spitz family did a wonderful job documenting many people and places. It is very encouraging that there is hope more people will get involved to either grow their own food or buy organic from those who are trying to make a living and sell you good food. My subscription for FMTV is up for renewal and THIS film and most other of your films is WHY I choose to spend money for this FMTV station to be informed! Thank you for having this available!

LOVED this film, saw some familiar faces, and the 10% change concept is very doable. And, we do vote 3 times a day, as consumers. Change is possible. Community is important. Our food sources are important. The environment is important. It's interesting how everything is related. This film is inspiring!

KUDOS to the Spitz family for making the concept of 'change' REAL - and FMTV for including this in the video library! Eating IS a political act, so vote with your food dollars. It's the only authentic vote you have that can/will make a difference for yourself, your community and your future. To those 'critics' of Food Patriots, grab a shovel, turn some soil and plant some seeds and make a movie of your efforts. Submit your movie here for comment review so everyone can see your 'ten percent' change. In the meantime Spitz family, I'm at the foodpatriots.com site rocking with your message!

The first 26 minutes were great...then a GMO farmer came on. I stopped watching. I get that the farmer has his family to feed but at the cost of damaging our soil, water table and so on... The rest of the film may have been good, I don't know since I stopped when GMO's were introduced.

Good video and good message... but... I didn't like the GMO part at all... the message transmitted by this farmer is not the real stuff... when an insect is bitting the leaf it dies... and we eat that leaf and it is supposed to be ok? And feeding animals with this? Hmmmm...

But, the rest of the movie is passing a message and brings some kind of awareness to people who are just waking up to the fact that our food is important and has to be eatable and without toxic stuff in it... good work!

Wonderful to know your thoughts about the film Amyah. In the light of it, the film helps encourage people to look at their 'food as medicine' and be more aware of where our food comes from. It helps people to look at the food they normally eat on a day to day basis and replace it with local, fresh, organic, more natural options ~ Ivory :)

Though your overall message was a good one - your message regarding GMOs was misleading at best; deceitful and harmful at worst. The use of GMOs has NOT reduced the use of toxic pesticides and herbicides - it has increased such practices. And - as weeds and bugs develop immunities for Glyphosate and 2,4-D and others - the volumes of toxic pesticides, herbicides and fungicides continues to increase.

You talked a little bit about the fertility of soil and the benefits of worms and other micro-organisms. But you failed to mention how chemical agriculture is killing our arable soils. The farmer you interviewed (at 24:00) claimed that we was unaware of any other way to "feed the world". That's too bad because there are dozens of books and success stories right there in IL and WI. And you made no attempt to discredit his fallacious claims or share with your audience the amazing work that folks like Mark Shepard are doing just 90 minutes outside of Madison.

Even the Japanese story indicated that their health was failing do - in part - to the importing of the GMO corn and soy from the US. Corn is not good for human consumption - it is the least nutritious, empty carb of all vegetables. Nor is it any good for our livestock. Cows, pigs, chickens, sheep, goats have all evolved on grass diets - NOT grains, not corn and not soy. And yet we subsidize the hell out of this franken-food. GMO soy is only slightly less destructive to our health.

We are being lied to by our government - which recently passed a law that outlaws GMO labeling in all states. What are the hiding? Who is influencing our laws? Monsanto and the other Super Six. And - because of the power of the US - we are inflicting these poisons onto the entire world. Jeff & Sari Hartmann may be able to sleep better at night by deluding themselves into thinking that “they are feeding the world”; but they will soon wake up to the fact that they are instead “killing the world” … “poisoning the world” … spreading diseases like Obesity, Diabetes, Heart failure, Alzheimer’s, ALS, Autism, Parkinson’s, and Cancer. Hope you sleep well tonight, Hartmanns.
