FMTV - Bag It

Bag It

Runtime: 78m 22s | Release date: 2010

Americans use 60,000 plastic bags every five minutes - single-use disposable bags that we mindlessly throw away. But where is "away"? Where do the bags and other plastics end up, and at what cost to our environment, marine life, and human health?

Bag It follows "everyman" Jeb Berrier as he navigates our plastic world. Jeb is not a radical environmentalist, but an average American who decides to take a closer look at our cultural love affair with plastics. Jeb's journey in this documentary film starts with simple questions: Are plastic bags really necessary? What are plastic bags made from? What happens to plastic bags after they are discarded? Jeb looks beyond plastic bags and discovers that virtually everything in modern society - from baby bottles, to sports equipment, to dental sealants, to personal care products - is made with plastic or contains potentially harmful chemical additives used in the plastic-making process.

When Jeb's journey takes a personal twist, we see how our crazy-for-plastic world has finally caught up with us and what we can do about it. Today. Right now.

Jeb Berrier

Really interesting film, covers many aspects of plastics and the many chemical companies who knowingly hide / cover up the truth of how devastating and overused plastics are. I will certainly be more thoughtful out my use and purchasing habits. Thanks for putting this out there. Jonas

Excellent film. I m very curious how the situation is now, almost 10 years after this film was released. Has it gotten worse, same, better (even ever so slightly)? Definitely have started trying to reduce my own plastic footprint.

Hi Maarten, we are so happy you love the film and that it has inspired you to make a change in your own life! We agree it's definitely time for a follow-up documentary. Until then, check out some of the inspirational steps San Francisco are taking in the inspirational film Racing To Zero. It examines our society's garbage practices in terms of consumption, preparation, use, and production, and discovers some amazing solutions: https://www.fmtv.com/watch/racing-to-zero :) ~ Iris

I am thrilled to have watch this very important documentary *****. Jeb great movie, job well done and a MUST SEE for everyone!! Thank you, thank you, thank you . I am throwing away all my plastic bags today and use cloth or paper from now on. I will make everyone around me more aware and tell them about this movie. No more water bottles for school lunches, carry your own personal bottle. It's frightening to realize how much plastic is around everywhere!! And so much damage! If you love the ocean, nature, animals , others and yourself, show respect, consideration and caring, stay away from plastic!!
