American Addict

Runtime: 90m 15s | Release date: 2013

Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Heath Ledger, Phillip Seymour Hoffman…famous names that share a common tragedy. America has 5% of the world's population and yet consumes 80% of the world’s prescription narcotics. American Addict reveals the connections between government regulators, big pharmaceutical companies, physicians, and the media. Together, they reinforce treatment through prescribed medication. In the style of the “Inside Job” and “Food, Inc.”, this film exposes a shocking hypocrisy most are unaware even exists.

Featuring:
Gregory Smith

what a fabulous flim that so many are willing to tell the truth they have observed . there is a reason we are getting sicker - there are so many knock on affects from this nonsence and the trust my parents had in medicine was probably what contrubuted to the death of my father , and his confusion etc etc/ the more I know the more I feel emancipated from the deception and overwhelming feeling I am being 'looked after' by government proivate enterprise who would sell their soul to the devil - not good enough - and they call this the 'free world - what rubbish / this costs us all

Sadly New Zealand is 1 of the countries that are guilty for advertising prescription drugs. The most recent new drug advertisement that I'm aware of is called 'Champix', which supposedly helps you to quit smoking. This drug is being prescribed despite some of the side effects being mood changes, depression, agitation, aggression, thoughts and attempts of self harm/suicide, and hallucinations. Sadly, many people who ask their doctor for Champix, are not likely to do any research of their own, as they will automatically assume it is 'safe', because it is a prescription drug.

I agree. I used it twice to stop smoking. The first time, 3 weeks in I was an emotional mess so I stopped taking it. But it worked with the stopping smoking so I used it a second time, only for 2 weeks to initially stop smoking, but no longer. I did cease smoking after 2 weeks (and remain smoke free 6 years later) BUT I wouldn't recommend Champix to anyone for longer than two weeks. I know myself quite well, so when I felt like I was losing control that first time on Champix, I knew to stop. But I bet a lot of people don't know themselves that well and would struggle.

There is always a natural alternative to pharmaceuticals. One should always seek out an integrative medicine doctor who looks at holistic and nutrition issues and approaches or a Naturopathic doctor before popping pharmaceuticals. It is shameful to see how Big Pharma and Insurance companies are destroying us.

Thank you so much for these honest and well researched videos. As a nutritional medical student I get so annoyed and upset that the multi billion profit pharmaceutical companies believe they can deliberately bribe and get away with this. Its appalling!!! Everyone is being paid off!! Until we take responsibility for our own health I cannot see any change except for people dying sooner and younger.
