A New Perspective On Fatherhood

Runtime: 11m 41s | Release date: 2017

Back in 2013, Joel McCarthy joined up-and-coming young filmmakers on a trip to Peru with Vitamin Angels, in collaboration with the National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY) and vitaminwater. After documenting Vitamin Angels’ vitamin distributions and meeting local families, he and his team produced an award-winning documentary called "A Supporting Role."

Four years after the film's premiere, Joel's life took a thrilling and surprising plot twist. He became a first-time dad and suddenly had to learn how to navigate the ups and downs of fatherhood. With a new perspective on what it means to be a parent, Joel decided to travel with Vitamin Angels once more to gain an understanding of fatherhood on a global scale.

Vitamin Angels reaches over 52 million children in more than 60 countries with lifesaving vitamins, protecting them from the effects of malnutrition during their first five years of life. Because when children are happy, so are their dads. Just ask Joel—and follow his journey to learn more!

Very touching. However, I thought the film covered more on humanitarian efforts; brought awareness on the malnutrition in Guatemala and promoted Angel Vitamins instead of focusing more on the experiences of “direct” fatherhood (as the subject title implies). Still a cool documentary!
